Importing faucets and shower valves into the European Union involves compliance obligations that extend beyond product certification to the packaging, labelling, and documentation that accompany each shipment. Some EU member states have additional consumer protection requirements mandating country of origin disclosure in advertising and point-of-sale material. Confirm with your legal advisor whether your target market has specific country of origin disclosure requirements beyond the customs declaration.
EU consumer product safety legislation requires that installation and safety instructions be provided in the official language(s) of each member state where the product is sold. A faucet sold in Germany must have German-language installation instructions; one sold in France requires French instructions. For importers distributing across multiple EU markets, multi-language instruction leaflets (typically covering English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Polish for comprehensive EU coverage) must be produced and included with each product unit.
Under EU regulations, the importer (not the Chinese manufacturer) is responsible for applying their own name, registered EU trade name, and EU postal address to the product or its packaging if this information is not already displayed. This is commonly achieved through a small adhesive label applied to the outer packaging during EU warehousing. The importer's contact information must be present on the product so that market surveillance authorities have a clear European point of contact without needing to trace back to the Chinese manufacturer.
